Restoring Function and Aesthetics for a Healthy Smile

A dental restoration or dental filling is a dental restorative material used to restore the function, integrity and morphology of missing tooth structure. The structural loss typically results from caries or external trauma. It is also lost intentionally during tooth preparation to improve the aesthetics or the physical integrity of the intended restorative material. Dental restoration also refers to the replacement of missing tooth structure which is supported by dental implants.

Dental restorations can be divided into two broad types: direct restorations and indirect restorations. All dental restorations can be further classified by their location and size.

Tooth colored

Dental composites, commonly known as white fillings, are a popular choice for direct fillings due to their natural tooth-colored appearance. These materials can also be used to create crowns and inlays, fabricated in a dental laboratory to match the color of your natural teeth. While dental composites provide an aesthetic solution, offering a seamless blend with your smile, their strength and durability are not as high as porcelain or metal restorations. They may be more susceptible to wear and discoloration over time, making them better suited for areas of the mouth with less biting pressure. Nonetheless, they remain a highly effective option for restoring the appearance and function of teeth.
